My apartment is old, I can't deny that. Everything feels old, the carpet isn't in great shape, details are outdated (my shower is even mustard yellow). My fridge in the picture shown here confirms that its old. My great uncle lived in the same complex in his mid 20's and I'm seriously 99.9% sure nothing has been updated since then. Anyways, covering my fridge in chalkboard contact paper has been on my diy bucket list FOREVER now, and its been gross and rainy in Michigan all weekend so it seemed like the perfect time to tackle this project. I would have much rather painted the fridge with chalkboard paint but that wasn't an option so this will do. This project was very easy but also very time consuming. |
What you'll need:
A fridge (in case that wasn't obvious)
Chalkboard contact paper (I found mine at Meijer for 3.99 a roll and used 2 1/2 rolls)
Exacto Knife or Box Cutter
Tape Measurer
Paitence

What to do:
I'm not sure there's any easy way to go about this, some posts I read said to measure your pieces out, some said to just apply and peel off the backing as you go and cutting it to size. I choose the latter. Mostly because I tried to have enough that I could just easily cover the edges with the same piece of contact paper.
Once you figure out what works for you though just go for it! Seriously there's no good way to explain it otherwise. There's a couple spots on mine that didn't look great and those spots are now covered with pictures.
Also the inside doesn't look perfect when you open the door, I didn't plan ahead for that so I would recommend doing so but most people won't see the inside besides me, so it'll be me crying every time I open the fridge/
